CAN FASTING SLOW AGING?

Fasting activates biological stress-response pathways, but the human evidence for slowing aging is much less dramatic than longevity headlines suggest. π—žπ—˜π—¬ π—•π—˜π—‘π—˜π—™π—œπ—§π—¦ Explains the idea of β€œgood stress” Connects fasting with cellular stress responses Reviews human calorie-restriction evidence Separates metabolic benefits from proven lifespan extension π—§π—›π—˜ π—œπ——π—˜π—” π—•π—˜π—›π—œπ—‘π—— β€œπ—šπ—’π—’π—— 𝗦𝗧π—₯π—˜π—¦π—¦β€ The body responds to certain controlled stresses by activating repair and survival pathways. Fasting is one example. The theory is that temporary nutrient scarcity can activate cellular programs associated with energy conservation, stress resistance and metabolic adaptation. But a biological mechanism is not automatically a longevity treatment. π—§π—›π—˜ π—–π—”π—Ÿπ—˜π—₯π—œπ—˜ 𝗧π—₯π—œπ—”π—Ÿ π—œπ—¦ π—œπ—‘π—§π—˜π—₯π—˜π—¦π—§π—œπ—‘π—š In the CALERIE randomized trial, 220 adults without obesity were assigned to approximately 25% calorie restriction or a control diet for two years. A 2023 analysis found that calorie restriction slowed the pace of biological aging measured by the DunedinPACE DNA-methylation algorithm. However, the effect was modest, and several other biological-age measures did not significantly change. That is useful evidenceβ€”but not proof that fasting makes humans live longer. π—™π—”π—¦π—§π—œπ—‘π—š π—œπ—¦π—‘β€™π—§ π— π—”π—šπ—œπ—– Time-restricted eating can help some people manage food intake and body weight. But controlled trials show that timing alone isn't necessarily the key factor. In a 2024 randomized trial, when calorie intake was kept similar, time-restricted eating did not produce a special weight-loss advantage over a longer eating window. π— π—˜π—‘πŸ―πŸ± π—§π—”π—žπ—˜π—”π—ͺ𝗔𝗬 Fasting may be a useful tool. It is not yet a proven anti-aging treatment. The stronger human evidence is around metabolic health and calorie controlβ€”not dramatically extending lifespan. π—§π—›π—˜ 𝗕𝗒𝗧𝗧𝗒𝗠 π—Ÿπ—œπ—‘π—˜ Use fasting if it helps you build a sustainable eating pattern. Don't use it because someone promised you immortality.
