NAD+ is central to energy metabolism and cellular repair, making it one of longevity science’s most discussed molecules. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, is a molecule involved in energy metabolism and several cellular processes. It also acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in processes including DNA repair and regulation of gene expression. NAD+ levels tend to change with age, which has made NAD-boosting strategies a major area of longevity research. π—§π—›π—˜ 𝗛𝗨𝗠𝗔𝗑 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗔 π—œπ—¦ π—œπ—‘π—§π—˜π—₯π—˜π—¦π—§π—œπ—‘π—š In a randomized trial of 30 overweight or obese adults aged 45+, NMN substantially increased circulating NAD and its metabolites. The study also observed reductions in body weight, LDL cholesterol and diastolic blood pressure. But it was small and lasted only 28 days, and measures of muscle performance and aerobic capacity did not significantly improve. A separate 2024 randomized trial involving 60 older adults found that NMN increased blood NAD+ levels, but the primary stepping-test outcome did not significantly differ from placebo. π—§π—›π—˜ π—žπ—˜π—¬ π——π—œπ—¦π—§π—œπ—‘π—–π—§π—œπ—’π—‘ Increasing NAD+ is measurable. Whether doing so meaningfully slows human aging is still an open research question. That distinction is critical when evaluating supplements. π— π—˜π—‘πŸ―πŸ± π—§π—”π—žπ—˜π—”π—ͺ𝗔𝗬 NAD+ is real biologyβ€”not marketing fiction. But a higher NAD+ blood level should not automatically be translated into β€œyounger.” π—§π—›π—˜ 𝗕𝗒𝗧𝗧𝗒𝗠 π—Ÿπ—œπ—‘π—˜ NAD+ boosters are scientifically interesting. They are not yet proven anti-aging treatments.
